Snack Mountain was created by Lauren Adolfsen in May of 2003. It was originally designed as an art installation for Lauren's senior thesis art project. The idea behind the installation was to create an interactive ride in a museum space. The installation was set up in a golf cart with a claymation movie projected on a screen inside the cart and a music soundtrack audible on two sets of headphones. Alongside the golf cart was a display of "I survived Snack Mountain" t-shirts and action figures. The installation was displayed at the Tang Museum at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY. In the fall of 2004, Lauren began making stuffed dolls and t-shirts using the images of her snack-inspired characters.
